The Organic Rant + Intro

Hi everyone! This is a new blog of mine. I realize that I did start a blog in the past, and wasn't so awesome about updating...but hey, a new time, a new blog. And this time, I'm going to be very realistic about how often I'm going to update: sometimes. I'm busy, with three schools and grad school and work. Sometimes, though, I have thoughts (mostly conversations/debates with people) that I think others might be interested in, so I'm going to start posting here. Yay! Hope you all enjoy!

Note: I realize that making my first post on this blog a previously posted rant might not be the most creative thing on the planet, but I thought this rant was an important disclaimer to this blog. So here you have it, again!

Why I Eat Organic (And Don't Want to Hear About it Anymore)

Dear world,

I eat organic. I buy organic produce, grow organic vegetables, and cook with organic ingredients. If I can't get organic, I always get non-GMO. I even have organic vanilla for baking. Why? Because I want to. Because I ALREADY KNOW the facts, and have decided that that's what I would like to do. I have been eating and cooking this way for a while now.
Now that I've gotten that out of the way, I would like to take the time to have a chat with everyone. I was a vegetarian for a good eight years or so. During this time, I never told people how to eat, what to eat, or made faces or weird noises when they were eating meat around me The reason for this is because it was their choice to eat meat, just like not eating meat was mine. Sometimes, I would have people good-naturedly roll their eyes or tease me a bit for being a vegetarian, but for the most part, I didn't hear about it too much. These days, however, I hear a lot about eating organic food. I have people roll their eyes quite seriously, scoff at me sometimes, and tell me (often) that just because I'm in my early 20's and live in California, doesn't mean that I have to buy into this fad. Listen up, folks: FOR ME, IT IS NOT A FAD. I get much more flak for eating all organic than I did in all of my years of being a vegetarian. Like I said, I already know the studies and the facts. It is my choice to eat organic if that's how I want to eat, and I don't need to hear about it, be scoffed at, be told I'm being silly and wasting money, or anything else. I don't judge you for eating conventional food: please do me the same courtesy.
I would also like to point is not always more expensive. I believe that I get a lot of my organic produce at a cheaper price than most of the conventional produce that I see around the stores--I just go straight to the farms. I shop around, I use coupons sometimes, and I make it work. So no more of that, please.

Thank you,
Kate

P.S. This is not actually aimed at any one person. I know that you are all lovely people, and very good natured. But I did have to get that out there.
